How to convert a PDF to Excel
Upload one PDF, let the AI rebuild its tables, then check a few values against the PDF before you download.
- Step 1
Upload the PDF
Choose one PDF of up to 20 pages, digital or scanned. A password-protected PDF asks for its password, which stays in your browser.
- Step 2
Convert with AI
Each page is read for its layout, so rows and columns land in the right cells. A table that runs over several pages comes back as one table with its header once.
- Step 3
Download XLSX, XLS or CSV
Compare totals and a few rows with the PDF, then download an Excel workbook or a CSV file.
What formatting is kept
The converter keeps the structure of each table: its rows, columns, merged header cells and the values exactly as printed. A table that breaks across pages is joined, and a header repeated on the next page appears only once.
Fonts, colours, borders and the page layout are not copied, so the sheet stays clean to sort, filter and add formulas to. With “Tables only” on you get just the tables; turn it off to keep the text around them in page order.
PDF to XLSX, XLS or CSV
- XLSX is the current Excel format and keeps merged header cells. Choose it unless you have a reason not to.
- XLS is the older Excel format for legacy accounting software that cannot open XLSX.
- CSV is plain values separated by commas, for databases, scripts and import tools. It drops merged cells.
PDF to Google Sheets
Google Sheets cannot open a PDF as a spreadsheet. Convert the PDF here, download XLSX or CSV, then in Google Sheets choose File > Import > Upload. Pick “Replace spreadsheet” or “Insert new sheet” to keep the data apart from what is already there.
Free pages and pricing
Convert the first pages of a PDF free once a day to see how your document comes out. Converting every page uses credits per page, from a plan or a one-time pack with no subscription; each page counts once. Each conversion takes one PDF of up to 20 pages. See pricing.
Scans, bank statements and single tables
The same converter powers pages set up for particular PDFs:
- Scanned PDF to Excel: OCR for scans and image-only PDFs, with tips for a clean result.
- Extract tables from PDF: only the tables, without the text around them.
- Bank statement to Excel: every page of transactions joined into one table. Locked statement? See bank statement passwords.
Working from photos, scans or screenshots instead of a PDF? Batch OCR converts up to 10 images at once.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a PDF to Excel?
Upload the PDF above and convert it. The tables come back as Excel cells with their rows, columns and merged headers. Check a few values against the PDF, then download XLSX, XLS or CSV.
Is this PDF to Excel converter free?
You can convert the first pages of a PDF free once a day to check the result. Converting every page uses credits per page, from a plan or a one-time pack without a subscription.
Can I convert a PDF to Excel without losing formatting?
The table structure is kept: rows, columns, merged header cells, numbers and dates as printed. Fonts, colours, borders and page layout are not copied. That keeps the sheet easy to sort and calculate; style it in Excel afterwards.
What makes an AI PDF to Excel converter different?
Text-based converters copy words by their position on the page, which splits wrapped cells and shifts columns, and finds nothing in a scan. The AI reads the page the way a person does, so it rebuilds the grid from digital and scanned PDFs alike.
Can I convert multiple PDFs to Excel at once?
Each conversion takes one PDF of up to 20 pages. Convert several PDFs one after another, or combine short ones into a single PDF first. To batch convert images, use batch OCR, which takes up to 10 images at a time.
Can I convert a PDF to Google Sheets?
Yes. Download the result as XLSX or CSV, then in Google Sheets choose File > Import and upload it. Rows, columns and values come across unchanged.
Does it work with handwritten or scanned PDFs?
Scanned PDFs work the same as digital ones. Clear handwriting usually converts, but check handwritten numbers carefully. For scans, see the scanned PDF to Excel page for tips on getting a clean result.
Is my PDF kept private?
Files are sent over an encrypted connection and used only to produce your spreadsheet. A PDF password is entered in your browser and is never sent to us.
