GIF to PNG Converter with Complete Frame Extraction
Capture a clean PNG from a GIF or unpack the complete animation into numbered PNG frames. Preview every composited frame, keep transparency, and download one image or a ZIP without uploading.
GIF decoding and PNG creation run locally. The file is never uploaded.
No PNG frames extracted
The first PNG is a still image. Animated GIFs can also be exported as a numbered PNG sequence.
How to convert GIF to PNG
Choose a GIF, extract its rendered frames, then download the selected PNG or the complete numbered sequence.
Choose a GIF
Select or drop a static or animated .gif file up to 25 MB.
Extract rendered frames
Decode the animation, apply disposal rules, and preview each complete lossless PNG frame.
Download PNG output
Save the selected frame as PNG or package every numbered frame into one ZIP.
GIF to PNG frame output
A PNG file is normally static. Animated GIF input therefore needs an explicit single-frame or frame-sequence workflow.
| Control | Setting | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Input | Static or animated GIF | Accepts one local GIF up to 25 MB |
| Selected frame | Any decoded frame | Downloads one still PNG for thumbnails, covers, or image editing |
| All frames | Numbered PNG sequence | Downloads every rendered frame inside a ZIP archive |
| Transparency | Alpha-capable PNG | Keeps transparent GIF pixels instead of replacing them with white |
| Limits | 200 frames, 100 megapixel-frames | Prevents extremely large animations from freezing the browser |
GIF vs PNG: what changes
Both formats use lossless compression, but PNG offers richer color and alpha transparency while ordinary PNG does not animate.
| Characteristic | Source | Output |
|---|---|---|
| Animation | Can contain many timed frames | One static frame per PNG file |
| Color | Up to 256 indexed colors per frame | Full 24-bit color plus alpha channel |
| Transparency | Binary transparent or opaque pixels | Full alpha transparency in the output format |
| Frame disposal | Frames may contain partial patches | Each PNG is a complete composited frame |
| Batch output | One animation file | One selected PNG or a ZIP of all frames |
Correct frame composition and private processing
GIF frame patches are composited with their disposal rules before each PNG is created locally.
Disposal-aware frame rendering
The decoder applies GIF disposal methods 2 and 3 so partial updates do not produce missing or incorrectly overlaid PNG frames.
Lossless PNG creation
Canvas exports every completed frame as PNG without adding JPEG artifacts or a forced background color.
Frame-by-frame preview
A horizontal strip shows every extracted image, letting you select the exact frame before downloading.
Local ZIP packaging
All PNG frames are named in sequence and compressed into a ZIP entirely on this device.

GIF to PNG converter FAQ
How do I convert GIF to PNG?
Choose a GIF above and select Extract PNG frames. Select any previewed frame and download it as PNG, or download all frames as a numbered ZIP.
What happens when an animated GIF is converted to PNG?
A standard PNG is a still image, so each GIF animation frame becomes a separate PNG. This tool lets you download one selected frame or the complete sequence.
Can GIF be converted to one animated PNG file?
That output is APNG, a separate animation format with different encoding and compatibility. This page intentionally creates ordinary PNG still images and a ZIP sequence.
Does GIF to PNG improve image quality?
PNG prevents additional compression loss and supports more colors, but it cannot recreate colors already removed by the GIF's 256-color palette.
Is GIF transparency preserved?
Yes. Transparent pixels remain transparent in the PNG output. PNG supports a richer alpha channel, although the original GIF contains only binary transparency.
Is my GIF uploaded?
No. GIF decoding, frame composition, PNG creation, preview, and ZIP packaging all run locally in your browser.
